“… and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers…”
(Judges 7:19)
God’s heart held an important plan when He called Gideon and his “small” army as Hehad already proven that He intended the very unexpected to take place.
In fact, those men’s decision was deeply rooted by God’s strategy. Hence, they were so few, and yet capable of exceeding in courage, audacity, and faith. “and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with three, the same shall not go.”(Judges 1:4 b)The Midianiteshad taken away the peace and rest of Israelites by surrounding their land. It was hard to live for the Israelites to put-up with mistreats, harassments, and daily massacres. In-deed, God’s people were suffering. But, God prepared his plan.
Sometimes we think that God’s interference in our life happens complexly and we wonder which direction it will take. Many believers try to even bring God into trial “expecting” Him to work in their favor. But, God is sovereign and always works the way He pleases. For example, God sent Gideon to the valley to get closer to enemy. Gideon dangerously got closer to Midianites’ tents to overhear their soldiers’ conversations.
Likewise, wehear the news and broadcast through the means of communications. Such evilness make us suffer, cry and mornknowing that we are unable to help. In addition, we feel abandoned, trapped, persecuted, threaten, and even exploited. Nonetheless, we go through rejections, disrespect, underestimation and so forth.
Similar experiences occurred with Gideon and his inferior army. They did not hold onto sophisticated weapons nor took advantage of advanced military technology and neitherrelied on brilliant strategists.
